  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Preparing the Onions:

  • Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch wide. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Creating the Batter:

  • Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl.

Coating the Onion Rings:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 375°F (190°C).
  • Take an onion ring and dip it into the flour mixture, ensuring it's coated evenly. Shake off any excess flour.
  • Dip the floured ring into the buttermilk, then back into the flour mixture for a second coating. Make sure it's well coated.
  • Repeat the process for the remaining onion rings.

Frying the Onion Rings:

  • Carefully place a few coated onion rings into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.
  • Fry the onion rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried onion rings to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Continue frying the remaining onion rings in batches until all are cooked.
